Book character dress-up day!

(This is from last week...)Look at all these new friends we had in class today! Ariel and Wonder Woman showed up, along with some pirates and Ash from Pokemon among others. Our substitute teacher, Miss Ingalls Wilder was taking the picture. :)

Math helper!

A high school Spanish student, Srta. Kola, volunteered to help out in our class this afternoon during math class. We were working on describing and classifying shapes.

A new friend!

Today we welcomed a new friend into the class. Everyone was so helpful to make sure he felt comfortable in our classroom community.

Read to self

Our first day of practicing read to self time went very well! The students each have their own box of books that they need to read silently and by themselves. It is a very calm environment and is a great way for them to improve their reading!

Building the alphabet

Let's work together to help build Srta. Palmer's new foam alphabet squares mat and organize the books!

Partner games

Today we played the dice games we learned on Friday to reinforce the concept of numbers. They work so well together!

Our hopes and dreams

The students worked on writing and drawing their hopes and dreams for first grade this morning. They wrote them on a puzzle piece so that we can hang them all up together because we are all part of the classroom community where we are all important, our hopes and dreams are all connected, and we all help each other to achieve those dreams!

Bring on the fire!

The class practiced how to do a fire drill today. Here they are waiting patiently and silently for the all good from me. We're ready!

Silent friends

In order to encourage and motivate the students to be quiet while working independently, each group of desks has a quiet friend stuffed animal. If they are working quietly, he gets to sit on their desk. Ssshhh...

Off to the library

Look at how great that line is! The kids waited patiently for all the rest of the kids before St. Kreie picked them up to go to Language class!

All about me :)

The students made circle maps a out themselves...drawing pictures of things that they like and things that represent them. Tomorrow we will share with the class!

Math review

The students worked hard today to finish a math review sheet of numbers. What comes after 21 again?

Dance break!

After lots of talk and little movement, we played the freeze dance game to let out a little energy and be a little silly. :)

Collaboration rocks!

The students were discovering different ways to use markers as well as work together in a group as they colored some beautiful flower posters for our hallway. Aren't they beautiful?!

The kids were on their way home today after their first day of first grade to tell you all the fun things they did!
